Make sure you choose, a Plasma TV or Video Projector that is capable of HDTV, 16x9 Widescreen format, and not a lesser format such as EDTV.
Plasmas are the better choice if the size of your media room is small and if you plan on watching a lot of television.
Video Projectors are preferred for larger rooms where movies will be primarily viewed. Video projectors can display a much larger image at a lower cost than a plasma. But projectors, use expensive bulbs for picture illumination that need replacing every so often.
If you really want your home theater to feel like the local cineplex experience, then the only way to go is with a video projector and video screen. Add a HD DVD player and surround sound processor to your set-up for a truly breathtaking movie viewing experience . |

Place your first row of seats no closer than 2 screen heights away from the screen. Your rows of seats should generally fall within 1.5 to 3.0 times the screen width. SMPTE recommends a 30-degree field of view from the spectators' seat. The optimal viewing position would be 1.87x the screen width. A 100-inch wide screen x 1.87 = 187 inches/12 = 15.6 feet away.
If you only know your screens diagonal measurement, a quick way to roughly calculate the "sweet spot" for viewing is approximately 1.5x the screen diagonal. |
