Q: What are 120Hz and 240Hz LCD Displays?
A:
Electricity in the US is 60Hz and TVs generally operate at a 60Hz refresh rate. TVs display video-based content at 30 fps (frames per second), or 24 fps film-based content via a 2:3 pulldown process, but that introduces judder or jerky motion.
New LCD displays with 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates are double or quadruple the standard 60Hz. Both 24 and 30 go evenly into 120, so it can handle both frame rates equally well and gives equal screen time to each frame without requiring 2:3 pulldown. Some of these higher refresh displays also include smoothing algorithms that can interpolate and help provide a smoother motion picture.
