Q: What is 5:5 pulldown?
A: 5:5 Pulldown is a new feature on some 120 Hz displays. It is only important for content filmed at 24fps and encoded at 24p on a high-definition Blu-ray Disc (BD).
Your BD player must support 24p output and your TV must support 24p input capability. Optionally, some displays offer reverse telecine to remove the 3:2 pulldown that can introduce judder.
Since 24p goes into 120 Hz evenly, then each full-frame is displayed on-screen an equal amount of time (i.e. 5 times per full-frame = 1/24th sec. = 42 milliseconds), hence the 5:5 pulldown. |
