The bowtie design provides strong gain across the entire UHF spectrum and it functions incredibly well in areas where a low profile antenna is required.

The range of an antenna will vary greatly depending on many factors including the height of the mount, topography, material surroundings, direction, etc. Even with high gain or a pre-amp, an antenna cannot pick up signals that are blocked.
