Stars Wars fans rejoice: Episode VII is not only in the works, but the film’s production staff has a script and just announced the cast!
From starwars.com: “Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.”
Director J.J. Abrams said, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
Episode VII is being directed by Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasden and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing the film and John Williams is returning as the music composer.
Disney and Lucasfilm announced earlier last month that principal photography on Star Wars: Episode VII will commence in May and will be based at London’s historic Pinewood Studios.
The rumors about the movie being set in the future have been confirmed as well: it’s going to be set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI (Return of the Jedi). However, possibly the biggest mystery of all surrounding the new movie is what it will be titled. Rumors are indeed swirling and inside “sources” claim that the filmmakers are deciding between two titles: “ Return of the Sith” and “Rise of the Jedi.”
Star Wars: Episode VII is set to open worldwide on December 18, 2015.
No other details have been confirmed at this time besides the announcement of the cast and the expected release date.
With the news of the upcoming production of the latest Star Wars film, fans are, no doubt, re-kindling their love of the wildly-popular empire (pun intended), dusting off their favorite episodes, and re-hashing their favorite character impersonations.
