What makes a great movie? Is it the acting? The storyline? The character development?

The great thing about the movies is that with so much variety, there is a film for everyone.  That being said, what's your favorite movie?  How does it stack up against the all-time greats? At HT Mart, we have compiled a list of the 21 greatest films of all time (along with a handful of others that barely missed the cut).  Why 21 you ask?  Simply put, why not?

These films represent a variety of genres from drama to comedy and even horror, and are always at the top of virtually every film critic and movie buff’s rankings.  With over 100 years of cinema, there are thousands upon thousands of films to consider.  However, these movies are the cream of the crop; the ones that consistently score well and place high on most “best of” and “greatest” lists.  Some are relative new comers in the “brief” history of film while others are several decades old, withstanding the test of time.

We studied the findings of a number of reputable sources like AFI (the American Film Institute), IMDb (Internet Movie Database), and AMC among others.  All of these films were selected through a rigorous process that included polling by well-respected movie critics and famous actors as well as website user ratings and reviews.

How many of the following movies have you seen?   We certainly hope you have seen at least some of them.  If not, we definitely recommend purchasing or renting them.  It kind of makes you want to grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and get comfortable in your own home theater, right?

So, here they are, in all their glory and in no particular order:
