Head outdoors, yes, outdoors, to the media room to see the ultimate retreat for the entire family. Home theaters are becoming more and more popular and affordable. But, did you know that home theaters aren’t limited to the inside of your house anymore?

If you have no space inside your home to indulge your passion for movies, have you considered an outside venue? The centerpiece of this exterior media room will be a special outdoor television that can withstand the elements. Sectional seating on colorful pavers will optimize the movie viewing experience. To create an intimate room, additions of wooden posts and lush plantings add to your design. The home theater decor will include textured fabrics and thoughtful touches that correspond to the interior space. The family will be able to watch their favorite movies in the coolest outdoor media room in town!

What could be better than a football game on a beautiful fall evening with all of your friends? How about experiencing this from the comfort of your own outdoor media room – especially if your local team is on the road!

Constructing an outdoor cabana, pergola, covered seating, outdoor fireplace and media room will let you enjoy your outdoor media room year round. Designing your outdoor space is easier today than it ever was.

An outdoor theater will make your house the gathering spot year-round in Southern California.

Imagine a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon–what better time to have some family and friends over for a barbecue and an evening of entertainment. While you enjoy your favorite beverage outside and start up the grill, you and some guests watch an afternoon flick on your weatherproof TV, while others enjoy listening to a montage of tunes from the outdoor speakers mounted in the pergola and hidden in outdoor rock speakers.

As the sun sets on this gorgeous Southern California Autumn day, the outdoor TV and sconces turn off, the string lights dim, the projection screen magically lowers from the pergola above, and the projector turns on to reveal the latest action thriller, playing outside for all your guests to enjoy.

Using one central remote, you can experience all these actions and more. And while imagining entertaining outdoors is fun, experiencing it is so much better. Watching a favorite movie outdoors is a fun and special warm–weather activity for kids and parents alike. And all it takes are some simple materials — plus a little creativity — to transform your backyard into an outdoor theater.

Once your screen is set up, create a casual, comfortable seating arrangement using plush cushions covered in fade–proof fabrics and soft, moisture–resistant pillows. Lanterns strung overhead and several groups of flameless candles set a laid–back mood, and a fun banner hung over the screen adds a celebratory feel.

Don’t forget a little lighting too as a safety measure as well as some ambiance. LED Rope Light has a warm white light that isn’t overbearing and is perfect for outdoor use.

A few simple drinks and snacks are all you need to complete your outdoor theater. For creative twists on a movie–night classic, don’t forget the popcorn!

Keep cozy blankets and a few extra sweaters nearby for chillier showtimes.

Usually, home theater design is based on the same ideas and components, but not for an outdoor space. Here are some of the important features from an outdoor media room project:

  • Television – Some televisions are not your standard indoor television. These TVs are made to be permanently mounted outdoors – even during the winter. Not only does the unit resist temperature extremes, wind and water damage, it’s also impervious to dust/dirt, insects and corrosion from salt water spray!
  • Speakers – Although some home theaters call for weatherproof speakers to be housed in a separate cabinet, this is sometimes not required. Some speakers are designed to hold up under extreme weather, including water and sun – durable fiberglass construction makes them completely weatherproof. These speakers even beat military standards for corrosion resistance.
  • Awning – Nothing ends an outdoor event faster than rain, but it doesn’t have to. An awning will keep your guests dry (or cool) without ending the party. The shade will also provide a bit more contrast to the TV screen in sunlight.
